To all members

Could you all please refrain from asking for suggestions or a vote regarding raffles or rallies from other members on the Facebook page unless, you are the Marshall of a rally and you are looking for advice or, suggestions for your particular rally?

In future, if a member has a suggestion regarding a rally or a raffle, could they please pass on their suggestion to a committee member or, the marshall for the rally your are making a suggestion for.

Warren Farm

Thank you all who attended warren farm rally. We had 22 units booked 5 cancelled 16 units and 1 tent attended the weather was fantastic. Although things didn’t go quiet to plan we had to change pitches on Sunday and Brian and jean arrived Sunday and also had to wait all day to pitch but we kept then entertained. 14 of us went for a lovely Carvery at Brent knoll on the Friday night great company. The raffle made £56 and we had a game of bingo after and Teresa Lea won and was happy as she never played before. So all in all great rally. Jeanette and Ray

Hunters Inn

Hi all, as you know we have a halloween rally booked in this year at hunters inn. We have been made aware that there isnt much interest in this rally, if we dont get many wanting to go this rally will need to be cancelled. Please can you book in asap if you want to go, decision will be made end of this month if we feel we need to cancel. Thank you. Nicki

There is a lot of information on the website regarding Broadmeadow, including directions, prices, contact numbers etc. If you haven't already booked in and wanting to go then please book in as soon as possible 

 

Xmas rally - Tudor Arms

Another reminder of the Christmas rally, it's always one of the best!! If you are wanting to go but have not booked in, you only have till 6th October to get the deposit and food orders to Jamie Worrall. 

 

AGM

Another reminder of the AGM, info on it is below. We have had interest in the Rally Secretary position who will be nominated on the night, and if no other interest, will be elected. We also have the Social Secretary position available if anyone is interested in being part of the committee. 

 

As usual, if anyone has any questions to do with the club, please do not hesitate to get in contact with any committee member who will be happy to help or pass on any information.

AGM

Hello everyone,

I can finally confirm that our AGM will be taking place on the 19th October at 7.00pm. The committee has agreed to change the location of the usual AGM and is now taking place at the Farmers club in Gloucester.

The address for this is:- Gloucester Farmers Club Ltd. Agriculture House, Greville Close, Sandhurst Road, Gloucester GL2 9RG.

After the meeting, there will be a basket meal of sausage and chips provided to all who attends, followed by a game of skittles. The committee would appreciate it if you could please make the effort to attend the AGM, not only to support the hard working committee who dedicates their time to the club, but also to support the club itself.

The main item on the Agenda of the AGM will be the re election of the committee members, these will include:-

Chairman - If anyone would like to take the position on, then I would be willing to step down. If not, then I am happy to be re elected.

General Secretary - Nicky Dowdall would like to be re elected.

Treasurer - Jenny Hands would like to be re elected.

Rally Secretary - Jamie Worrall would like to step down (please could members consider if they would like to take on this role, Jamie will be willing to advise/guide those who wish to take this position)

Social Secretary - Nicki Owen would like to step down (please could members consider if they would like to take on this role, Nicky will be willing to advise/guide those who wish to take this position) 

There will also be four positions if people would like to be elected for a place on the committee.

For those who are attending the AGM, could you please let Jamie Worrall know as soon as possible, as the Farmers club requests we give them numbers at least a week before.

Broadmeadow

If you have booked to go to the Broadmeadow rally you May arrive 11am onwards on Friday 4th Oct. If you want to go and not yet booked in please contact Richard and Yvonne.

Tudor Arms xmas rally

People have started booking into the Christmas rally 6th to 8th Dec @ Tuder Arms. Friday evening we are hoping to have the skittles but this is to be confirmed near the time. The Christmas party will take place on SAT 7th Dec in the event hall of Turder Arms pub £19pn.

Meals are Scampi £6.50, 1/2 chicken £7.50, sausage £5.95 and chicken nuggets £6.50 all served with chips. Food will to be paid at the bar on the day.

Deposits will be required for your stay of £20 dep per pitch, the remainder amount will be due upon your arrival. PLEASE PAY YOUR DEPOSITS TO A COMMITTEE MEMBER BY 6th OCT! Arrive from 12 noon Friday 6th Dec late departure £6 pay on arrival. Same rate as the rally if you want to arrive before or stay on, as confirmed with Graham, please let me know if those who are arriving early. We have pitches 30 reserved for Dowtys numbers 28-49.

RALLY REPORTS

Holding Stables

Thank you to all who attended, we had 14 units booked in and 14 turned up. The weather was fantastic, the field was well mown and like a bowling green, we were made very welcome at the sports and social club, a few went to bingo on Friday night and Sunday night we went to their quiz night. We made £52 on the raffle, once again, thank you to all for the prized donated. It was a really nice weekend with Stratford on Avon near by with plenty to do and see. Once again, thank you to all who attended and making it a great weekend.  Phil, Ann and Wendy.

 

Beckford Rally

We had seven units booked in with two arriving on Thursday. The weather, well to say it was not very good is an understatement, glale force winds and rain with the occasional glimpse of sun. Most people went out on Saturday to Evesham or the Country Park for a bit of retail therapy, well you can never have enough pairs of shoes! Brian, Myself and Alfie had several attempts at flying kites. I think Brian did manage to get one to fly. Saturday evening we had a get together after coffee morning, with the cheese and crusty bread going down a treat. Thanks for the raffle prizes and a good weekend. Fran and George.

 

Bourton Rovers

11 vans and 2 tents enjoyed a fine weekend in the 'Venice of the Cotswolds'.  On Saturday morning, 12 members and 4 dogs took a scenic circular walk through a nature reserve and via Little Rissington to view the RAF memorial window at St Peters Church. The more hardy walkers took on longer routes taking in the Slaughters.  Refreshments were taken aroung the vans as well as in the club, where Alfie, Amy and Lucy showed the 'grown ups' how to play swingball, darts and pool to varying degrees of success.  It was great to see such a good mix of members on the field, as well Eunice and Lyn Ward. So thanks to all for attending and in particular, the 'ex Smiths' and newer members whose attendance and geniality makes our club stronger.  See you all soon, Dave and Rachael.

Broadmeadow Ross on Wye

Yvonne and I visited the site today to make contact with the new owners as the booking was made with the previous owners last year.  The good news is that the nightly charge will be a little less than the £25 quoted when booked, but the charge not yet fixed.  The rally will commence from 11.00 am on Friday 4th Oct and pitches must be vacated by 3.00 pm on Sunday 6th.  On arrival at the site barrier, request entry via the speaker phone then report to reception where you will be escorted to your pitch.  Please be advised not to follow sat-nav or approach through the town centre. The site is adjacent to the A40 and is clearly sign posted with the brown Caravan Park signs. Following the signs turn right onto Ashburton Estate Road, keep on this road for about 500 yds then turn right (just before Morrisons). Follow the road through the industrial estate to the caravan site. Rich

Once again, can we all please respect the rulses of the club which can be found on this website, especially the speeding as we have had a few complaints regarding members speeding on the rally field!!

RALLY REPORTS

Berry Hill rugby club

We had 7 units attend. 2 cancellations.
At the raffle and coffee morning, after expenses we made £5.
It rained most of the weekend.
Good location for woodland walks.

Pembrey Country park

We welcomed 18 vans to this lovely site in Wales, with people coming in on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
We were lucky with the weather having some good days of sunshine and with the beach on site it was great. The site had so much to do, with walks in the woods, toboggan rides, skiing, horse riding, archery and of course the beach, a 5 min walk. There was no need to leave site, although a clubhouse would have been good, which they are currently in the process of building. The club supplied the children with £5 each to go and enjoy an activity.
Coffee morning was held on Monday with a rather long raffle as so many prizes, thank you for all your donations, we made a profit of £38. We welcomed in new members and also had a lovely evening celebrating Martins birthday, thank you for the drink and lovely cakes.
I would definitely recommend this site, it has everything you need for a great holiday.

Top Barn Farm

We had a lovely weekend at Top Barn Farm! 19 units attended the rally, including new members Bob and Teresa, Jan and Mick and, Sharon, Alfie and family.  The rain came down on the Friday but then stayed away for the duration.  Many members went on walks (maybe stopping in the pub just to rehydrate...)  Some members had great pleasure in watching a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis.  We were able to use the marquee on the Saturday evening for the raffle - its a shame there was no heating as it was a bit cold. £24 profit on the raffle.  There was an issue with the electrics on the Saturday evening with the electrics going off on some of the vans several times.  Thankfully it seemed ok by the Sunday.  Thank you all for attending.  Sadie and Craig

 

Unity Farm

Thanks to everyone who joined us on such a lovely Easter bank holiday, the weather was amazing the whole weekend!!  We had 17 units in total and welcomed our new members Lee, Debbie, Ruby and Chan.  £29.52 profit was made on the raffle.  Everyone made use of the local pubs and swimming on site, many visited the local market and fun was had in the local theme park.  We had an easter egg hunt on the Sunday for all the kids which they seemed to enjoy and then a nice get together in the evening.  Thanks again to all who attended.  Emma and Lance

Message from Sheila Handy

Sheila, Marion and Rob thank all the club members who went to Daves funeral service, sent cards and gave donation. It was great to see you.  Many thanks, Sheila.

 

Speeding

We have had reports and concerns of members in our club speeding, could I please remind all members that there is a 5mph speed limit which is in our rules of the club, this includes electric scooters. A reminder:- The authority for conduct of the rally shall be vested in the rally marshall who, in the event of a member breaking the club rules, shall be authorised to request such members to remove their unit from the site.

 

South Cerney Steam and Vintage show

Those of you going on the South Cerney Steam and Vintage Extravaganza group booking, your passes have been passed out to either yourselves or to the Marshalls for Sharpness dockers club, to be passed on to you.  Please contact me if you have not received your pass after the weekend at Sharpness dockers club. Bourton-on-the-water

Hi all, just to advise those coming to Bourton Rovers this weekend, arrival is from 9am Friday morning.  Also those who wish to join us for a 4 mile (1.5-2hr) circular walk/amble on Saturday morning, please bring suitable footwear/trainers.  For the two tenters booked in, we have confirmed access to the toilets overnight.  See you all soon, Dave & Rachael x

 

Warren Farm

Just to let you know in advance, me and my other half is running Warren Farm rally and I have some good news for you all, anybody who wishes to join me on the rally field from Monday the 16/09/19 can do so at rally rates ok.  But, it would be very much appreciated if you people can let us know dates of arrival sooner rather than later. Xmas Rally

I can confirm for those who do not yet know, the Xmas Rally will be at Tudor Arms again and will be 06/12/19 to 08/12/19, details will be on the rally list of the website.  Our Rally Secretaries are looking into a possibility of change of location for our Xmas Rally next year 2020, if anyone has any ideas that matches the facilities we get at Tudor Arms then please forward your ideas onto our Rally Secretaries?

RALLY REPORTS

Whitemead

Thanks to everyone who came on the first rally to Whitemeads, what a great venue.  The weather was good to us and a big welcome to all the new members.  Fun was had by all, walking in the forest or just relaxing.  A big thank you to everyone that donated raffle prizes which made a good profit.  Don and I look forward to seeing everyone on the rally field, have a great year camping. Thanks again, Don and Julie.

 

Far Peak Camping.

I think we were all dreading the weekend at Far Peak as Thursday it just rained non stop all day. We had a few cancellations due to the weather and ill health but we ended up with a total of 15 units. Ray and Jeanette were the first to arrive (and the only ones) on Thursday and they reported back that the site was absolutely fine and not at all waterlogged. We arrived nice and early Friday morning and it was dry but quite chilly. The rest of the members arrived throughout the morning and afternoon. We would like to thank Ray and Jeanette for standing in as marshal whilst we attended Dave Handy's funeral. There was many former DCC members at Dave's funeral and it was so nice that he had the send off he deserved.
We welcomed 2 new members to the club, Derek and Fran Moore and Clive and Lisa Ryland, they did tell me that they enjoyed the rally and have already booked in for a future rally!
All 5 of the children attending rally booked in to go the climbing centre and they all thoroughly enjoyed the taster experience, they have all asked if we can return. The cost was £12 for 90 minutes and the parents, grandparents and friends could sit and watch from the indoor cafe with a nice cup of tea and cake! Other members decided to go to Wellesbourne market and others took walks around the area. The Sherbourne Arms pub in Northleach was a nice easy walk to take all along a bridle path and the food and drink was good. Friday evening Craig lit the fire pitt and for those brave enough sat around and got smoky and watery eyes! It was cold for the late comers who could not get close enough to the flames but we braved it until at least 10.00pm. There were even marshmallows to toast! Saturday was Grand National day so Jeannette and Ray ran a sweepstake. Steve Bowdidge picked the winner and won £20, second and third prizes had a tenner each and fourth prize had a box of maltesers. Saturday evening we had the use of the coffee shops closed in gazebo with ceiling heaters. It was a great way to be able to get together and have a drink or two in the warm. The site wardens are very pleasant and very helpful and have said if we wanted a midweek rally but not school holidays they would give us 3 nights for the price of two! I would recommend we revisit here but maybe in May/June when the weather is warmer!

Unity Farm

For everyone who is attending Unity Farm for the Easter weekend.  We will be on yellow field with hard standing, you can arrive on the Thursday 18th after midday, departure on Monday no later than 10am (if you would like to stay later then ask in reception before 10am either Sunday or Monday morning, it will be an extra £6 till 4pm).  Please could you book in with Lance and Emma asap with your car registration number and vehicle make and model, this will allow you to go straight through the barriers and go to yellow field.  Could you also please let us know how many children will be coming so we can sort out easter eggs, please bring your easter bonets?

 

Top Barn Farm

The marshalls for this now is Sadie and Craig Commander, not Jamie and Troy.  If anyone else is looking to book in, please let Sadie know or give her a call on 01452 540472.  If you have already booked in with Jamie then no need to book in again with Sadie.

 

Rally Secretaries

As new rally secretaries, Jamie and Nicki are doing well at booking some rallies for next year.  If anyone has any favourites or are aware of some good sites for us to try then please speak to them?  The more feedback they get from members, the easier it is for them and the more enjoyable it will be for members.

 

New Members

This year we have seen a few new members, we welcome you all to Dowtys club, we hope to see you on the rally field as much as possible and have a great time camping with us all.  If you have any issues then please come and have a chat with me (Lance Barnes/Chairman) or, any committee members and we will do our best to answer any questions or resolve any issues.

Dave Handy

It is with great sadness that I have to report that Dave Handy passed away on Thursday 14th March. Dave was a long standing member of Dowty Camping Club with his wife Sheila and was involved in running of the club in a variety of roles including chairman. Dave has been missed on the Rally field over the last few years due to illness. We would like to pass on our condolences to Sheila, his family and friends.

 

Pembrey Country Park Holiday Rally.

I have spoken with Pembrey Country Park today and the rally has been booked and confirmed but they had given me wrong tariff and prices have altered as well (Price was provisional anyway as booked last year). The new price is £23 per night including electric. I still believe this is a good price for a bank holiday weekend and also school holiday week. Numbers need to be confirmed at the beginning of May as any amount of pitches I have confirmed then will be charged for.

Although I have never been to Pembrey I have been assured by many that it is a lovely place to visit. Take a look at their website

AGM

For those of you who could not make the AGM on Friday night, I would like to confirm a few changes with you:-

- The Committee now consists of Lance Barnes (Chairman), Nicky Dowdall (General Secretary), Jenny Hands (Treasurer), Jamie-Lee Worrall (Rally Secretary), Nicki Owen (Social Secretary), George Dowdall, Eunice Hall, Alan Kelly and Phil Trotman (Committee members).  I would like to note, even though Jamie-Lee Worrall and Nicki Owen have seperate titles, they will both be assisting each other with both the Rally Secretary role and, Social Secretary role.

- We agreed to change rule 7 to:- The committee of the club shall consist of the officers plus, a maximum of four members, all of whom shall be elected annually at the Club's Annual General Meeting. All members shall be eligible for re-election. At its first meeting, the committee may elect a vice-chairman and a president. The committee shall meet at frequencies to be determined by themselves, but sufficiently often to conduct the activities of the club to ensure the satisfactory management of the club is maintained. 
The committee shall have the power to co-opt additional members and to appoint sub-committees. Appendix 2 refers.

- With regards to attending rallies, it has been evident that we have become slightly relaxed with the rules, two main things that got noted was, if we are attending a rally, can we all please STOP at the marshalls van before going to your pitch. Also, as i have mentioned before, if you are unable to attend a rally that you have been booked on but cannot make it, can you please let the marshall know ASAP.

I will confirm a few more things we spoke about at the xmas rally but the main ones have been mentioned above.

Introduction to the New Chairman

Hi, my name is Lance Barnes and I am 31 years old from Abbeymead.

I have a wonderful and supporting  partner of 14 years called Emma and two wonderful and sometimes mischievous children, Cody twelve and Courtney six. 

I have been working on the railway for fifteen years now. I am a Team Leader doing Signalling renewals (so very used to taking on lots of responsibility).

My hobbies include, main one obviously being Caravanning which I have been doing all my life with my parents, aunties, uncles and now, in my very own van for the last five years. Mountain Biking (when caravanning and work allows) and fixing cars (when my Land Rover decides to play up on a regular basis).

I see myself as a very sociable, confident person who is always up for a laugh with broad shoulders who enjoys a nice pint. I am someone who likes to take on new challenges. Im a good listener who takes suggestions and advice on board and am always happy to help.

I'm looking forward to the year ahead doing something I never thought I ever would, and that's being the chairman of a brilliant club with members of all ages and backgrounds who are all excellent people to be around.

End of season/Christmas rally at Tudor Arms

We had a very well attended party at Tudor Arms that everyone enjoyed immensely, 22 caravans arrived and all members were in the party spirits. Most played skittles on the Friday night whilst some of the members made a trip back to Gloucester to watch Glawster, it was a great game and Gloucester won the game so it was a trip worthwhile.

Saturday was party night and what a party it was! The disco was provided by our very own member Mark Gardiner and his lovely wife Tracy free of charge.  He played brilliant music all night and got everyone on the dance floor (with the help of Rob calling everyone up by name that was sat down). Some of the young ones even got on the dance floor and had a great time showing off their dancing skills. Once again thank you Mark and Tracy and consider yourself booked for next year. We had a brilliant raffle, great prizes and the children had their own raffle and all had a prize, I think the social ladies done a great job with the prizes and we made a profit but I Cannot remember the figure sorry!

It was a really great weekend and I hope we will do it again next year.

 

Dave and Sheila Handy decided earlier this year to sell the caravan as Dave has been suffering with his health. Dave and Sheila have been a great asset to the club for many many years. We all wish you both the very best for Christmas and the New Year.

The committee felt Dave and Sheila should be recognised for their hard work and they are now free lifetime members of the club and will receive the newsletter to keep up with what we are doing.
